Antioxidant foods
Three key points:
Although the percentage of the population over 50 increases, it doesn’t necessarily mean that we are all aging the same way. While some octogenarians seem young, others are dependent and frail.
What could we do? In the future, a DNA test linking our genes to optimal nutrition would be ideal. We haven’t reached that point yet.
What to do NOW: At Garden Lab, we manufacture very high-quality formulas that we know can help promote healthy aging through nutrition.
Antioxidant foods – Healthy Aging all starts with science:
Many older Americans eat a Western diet and do not have adequate micronutrients and macronutrients in their diet.
Micro-nutrients include :
1-Vitamins that our bodies cannot produce and come from organic, natural foods – notably veggies, plants, and fruits, or animals that eat those plants.
2- Inorganic: minerals like Zinc, Calcium, Selenium, Magnesium that come from the earth mantle.
3-Phytochemicals are botanicals like Bioflavonoids, Lutein, Zeaxanthin found in green tea, grapes, green leaves, almond skin, etc., and play an essential role in preventing oxidative stress and more. Anti-oxident foods includes your favorite fruits like berrues, apples, and more.
Macro-nutrients:
Most older Americans need to consume more proteins to maintain their muscle mass and add resistance exercises to promote it.
Fibers: processed foods contain fewer fibers. Fibers help lower cholesterol levels, which, in turn help reduce heart diseases.
Unfortunately, living longer doesn’t mean living well, because these nutritional needs are not easily met. This invisible need is called hidden hunger. We do not realize our bodies are deficient in some micronutrients, but we are not well. We do not have enough specific food to age well.
What to do to feel “young”?
1- Try to eat food to age well, a diverse diet, including veggies, fruits, dairy, poultry, fish, and whole grains, but that’s not always easy.
2 Take dietary supplements from a company you trust as an “insurance” to fill up potential gaps in your diet and promote health and wellness.
3- Move and socialize. Walk, carry some groceries, dance, or do light free weights.
High-Quality Dietary supplements should be part of our diet after 40 to ensure that our nutrition is optimized.
For instance, many surveys show that Zinc is not consumed in a sufficient amount. Zinc, an essential metal, works in synergy with vitamins A and D added to milk to ensure that our immune system functions well. Our immune system also needs Vitamin C found in citrus fruits or parsley.
Bioflavonoids like those found in green tea or grapes and red wine.
Polyphenols are proven to protect our brain and promote memory, learning, and cognitive function.

Are you getting enough antioxidant foods to age well? Some habits will impair your nutrition and healthy aging.
If you are not drinking milk or are on a restricted diet like vegan, vegetarian, or avoiding gluten, carbohydrates, high-fat foods, there is a risk that you lack certain essential nutrients. Antioxidant foods like flavonoids found in green tea and berries or minerals like Zinc can be deficient.
Likewise, if you eat sugary foods, solid fats, alcoholic beverages, there is a good chance that you become more vulnerable and suffer from obesity, diabetes, and other diseases.
